the ask

Nike stores display beautiful looks on their mannequins and display tables. However, the products are not always located near these “looks”. In high traffic stores, consumers have found that getting the attention of an employee can be difficult and wait times can be extremely long, so there needed to be a solution to help cut down on wait times and provide a more personalized and uninterrupted consumer/employee experience.

With the “Shop The Look” initiative, the consumer would be able to scan a QR code placed next to a retail mannequin (using their own smartphone) and their Nike App will display a list of all the products displayed so they can easily try on or purchase any item. In order for this to be a seamless consumer experience, there needed to be an app where employees can create these lists of products. Employees use the Look Builder tool to scan product barcodes, as well as QR Codes, to create a digital list of products that consumers can shop as a complete outfit.

our approach

My team and I went to many Nike stores to do user research and observations with the employees. Before Look Builder, the visual merchandising employees were keeping track of their mannequin’s looks by saving the printed out directives they got from their corporate partners. They were easily misplaced, they got mixed up often, and made for a very antiquated experience.

explorations & ideations

We explored many different options, aligned with our partners and created a prototype that we tested with users.

the outcome

To create a new look, Nike employees can scan products and rearrange them (important, since that is the order the consumer will see the products displayed in the Nike app), and add relevant information about the mannequin. This reduced time, confusion, and effort for the employees, and also resulted is more accurate product visibility for consumers.
